My work is created from high-fired stoneware clay, ranging in color from buff to red. Using the potter’s wheel along with a variety of handbuilding techniques, each piece is carefully formed, slowly dried, and bisque-fired to harden the clay. The surfaces are then developed through multiple layers of glaze, wax resist, and selective wiping or removal of glaze to create depth and visual interest. After the glazing process is complete and each piece is cleaned, it is loaded into a high-fire gas kiln. The final glaze firing reaches temperatures exceeding 2,300°F, where precise control of time and temperature determines the maturation and character of the glazes. The kiln is fired in a reduction atmosphere, enhancing the richness, depth, and complexity of the finished surfaces.
