Tony Borchardt Ceramics

Thank you for visiting my website! My name is Tony Borchardt, and I have been creating ceramic art for over thirty years. On this site, you can explore a wide variety of my clay works, which I also showcase at art fairs and exhibitions across the country. Additionally, I accept commissions, so if you have an idea for a clay piece, I would love to discuss it with you—I can help bring your vision to life. In Spring, I will begin to offer classes, private lessons, events, and workshops at my home studio in Florissant, MO. Please contact me and join my mailing list for up-to-date classes, workshops, exhibitions, and online sales. Please read more below and on my “About” page…

Stay Tuned for my full 2026 Schedule….

  • Raku is a traditional Japanese pottery style known for its black clay and crackled glaze. Pieces are taken from the kiln while still glowing hot (about 1800°F) and placed in a container filled with combustible materials, which ignite and create a sealed environment of smoke and fire. This dramatic firing process gives Raku its unique, unpredictable patterns and colors.

This course is open to all skill levels and covers both hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Final glazing will emphasize white and green crackle glazes. You’ll receive fifteen pounds of clay and glazes, with extra clay available for purchase.

Classes include demonstrations of wheel and handbuilding methods. I’ll also cover Raku’s history, kiln building variations, and a range of Raku firing and glazing techniques.

You can purchase your space on the shop page. Shop tab located at top right corner or this page.

  • Ask me about renting high-fire kiln space in one of my gas reduction kilns.

What can I make for you? I specialize in functional utilitarian wares, but love the challenge of something totally out of the box. Let's find a way to make your ceramic vision come to life with a possible commission project.

  • My ceramic work will be for sale through website sales, fine art fairs across the country through regional and national ceramic exhibitions. Check out my shop on this website to see options available. If you want to place an order contact me and lets make it possible.
